About:
IndyCLAW Animal Rescue is Creating Lifelong Animal Welfare. Operating on the southside of Indianapolis and into upper Johnson County, IndyCLAW's focus is on rescuing exotic pets. While we would not turn our backs on a dog or cat in need, we fill a need for an exotic pet shelter. Exotic pets are small mammals, like rabbits, hamsters and the like; birds like parrots, cockatiels, parakeets, etc; small farm animals like chickens and non-migratory ducks. As you can see from the photos, we get alot of dogs and cats in as well. If one of our fosters happens to have room, or we can find someone to foster them on our behalf, we don't turn them away. We work with a lot of other shelters and can at least redirect the animal in need to a more specific resource.<P> We are not yet a 501(c)3 organization, but we are non-profit. We are made up of active volunteers who foster in their own homes and actively assist in animal rescues of all kinds.

Iggy gets adopted
Iggy originally came to IndyCLAW from Indianapolis Animal Control as a very young iguana, January 2010 under the name DonPablo (gender was unknown then). She was adopted out to a family in Franklin, who despite good intentions, were unable to take care of an iguana in the manner needed. They were too busy to get her out daily and interact with her. Over time, she became cage aggressive and hard to handle. Finally, they realized it was in Iggy's best interest to return her to IndyCLAW to be rehomed, December 2010. During her stay with them, they renamed her as Iggy.
Her rehabilitation began with more frequent handling and tub soaks to improve her skin tone and temprament. In the spring, she had a clutch of eggs, confirming that she was a female. Not having been with a male, the eggs were not fertile. She was posted on PetFinder and attracted the attention of her adopter, a college student with time to continue working with her.
Iggy now has her own room with a window to hang out in and a futon to lounge around on. Stairstep wall shelves are planned to make the room complete and iguana friendly.
